At Coupon Dad our goal is to help you save money anyway we can. Sure, we offer the latest promo codes, coupons, and deals, but we also have tips to save you big!
This tip will save you a bundle. I’m not talking a few bucks here. I’m not even talking a few hundred, I am talking thousands!!! Yes, you heard me, thousands!
This is something that I learned the hard way and I teach to my kids all the time. Of course, Zack came into our relationship knowing all about it because his parents taught him, but mine didn’t. His dad is an uber CPA, his mom is an accountant so he grew up knowing about it. I had no idea. So teach your kids about this…. It’s an important life lesson…. Your credit score!
One way to save thousands of dollars is to improve your credit score. When Zack and I started dating, I was a financial mess. Not that I was reckless with spending and charging up credit cards, I just didn’t know the importance of a credit score. So what was the big deal if I was late making my payments? I paid them, just a little late… that sort of thing. My first car loan was 18%!!! When I told Zack this I thought he was going to fall over with heart failure. I was just happy that I got a car loan, I didn’t even look at the interest rate. Now, when I buy a car I expect to pay 0% to no more than 3% for a car loan and it really hurts my feelings to pay 3%. That is a big difference from 18%!! I’ve learned the importance of my credit score.
Keeping an eye on your credit report can help you with your score. If there are some things on your report, you can work to pay them off and get your score up. Credit Karma
Lastly, it doesn’t matter how much money you make to keep your credit score up. You don’t have to be super rich to have great credit. Here are 4 tips to a good credit score and this has nothing to do with the amount of money you make.
1. Pay you bills on time.
2. Keep balances low on credit cards.
3. Only open new accounts when needed. In other words Don’t have 10 department credit cards open.
4. Pay off debt instead of moving it around. This means instead of taking out a loan to pay off credit cards, just work to pay off credit cards without taking out another loan.
A good credit score will save you money on a car loan, mortgage, even your car insurance! So get busy getting your credit score up to save you thousands!!
