Rumored Redbox Instant Shutting Down October 1st!
There have been some recent rumors popping up about Redbox Instant shutting down on October 1st. While we can’t confirm the validity of this…there seems to be signs pointing to it being true. This Reddit thread, the fact that they aren’t allowing new sign ups, and now the Redbox Instant social media channels seemingly going dark. This possible news only pertains to the Redbox Instant streaming service (joint venture with Verizon) and not the Redbox machines run by Outerwall.

Makes it easy to infer the rumors may be true of Redbox Instant shutting down when they aren’t even taking on new business.
Redbox Instant Social Media
I also took a look at the Redbox Instant social media channels. They were using social media pretty aggressively to get the word out about their program at first. So it appeared it was a large part of their marketing strategy. Here is what I found.
Facebook: Their Facebook page hasn’t been updated since August 13th….a little over 6 weeks ago. Now I don’t know many thriving businesses that don’t take advantage of speaking to over 164,000 fans.
Twitter: Their Twitter account is even more desolate. No tweets since July 20th of this year. They have not responded to many customers tweets, good or bad.
Time to Move on?
In my humble opinion these are all signs that Redbox Instant may be coming to an end very soon. While it may not be October 1st….I’m guessing it will be sooner than later.
