Mattel Green Lantern Colossal Cannon and Action Figures Review
So I recently was given the opportunity to review some new toys coming out from Mattel based on the upcoming Green lantern movie. They sent me over two items for my nephew and I to check out.
- The Green Lantern Colossal Cannon (pictured above)
- A Honnu 4 inch figure from the Green Lantern movie with Green Lantern ring – (pictured right)
You should have seen the face of my 6 year-old nephew, Braydon, when I pulled out the package from Mattel containing the two toys.
Of course, he ripped the packaging open and was very eager to get his hands on the Colossal Cannon. I had to help him actually take the cannon off the cardboard which allowed me to play with it first!!! SWEET.
This is not your ordinary wimpy gun… no, this is a Colossal Cannon!! Your whole hand fits inside and that’s where you find the trigger!! When you pull the trigger you get lights and sound plus but the coolest part is you get to shoot the enemy with these green little discs. Cool right? And boy do they shoot. They do not just fall out of the gun onto the floor, they dart across the room a good 25 to 30 feet!!! Braydon and I learned very quickly that the Colossal Cannon is probably played with best outside or in a room that doesn’t house Aunt Sandy’s breakables…oops!
Warning, if you are a parent that has had a very hard day at work and are looking for a nice, quite, relaxing, evening well the Colossal Cannon is not the toy for such occasion. Loud and repetitive noises, check! But if you are looking to play a good, rowdy game of good guys verses bad guys then the Colossal Cannon is a must. Don’t worry though, the Colossal Cannon’s machine gun sound can be turned off with a flick of the switch.
Next, on to the Honnu action figure. First, I have to say that I love the idea of action figures because they really do allow the imagination to run wild. The possibilities are endless. I loved action figures as a child and I love playing with my son and nephews with action figures. With that being said, Honnu does not disappoint! He is durable, bendable, and comes with his own power ring!! What else does a guy need, right!
As with all things, there are some areas for improvement. I wished the Colossal Cannon was powered by AA type batteries instead of the flat disc batteries that are included. The next issue is about safety. The package states the toy is for children four and over. I have to disagree with this a bit because the green disc that shoot from the Colossal Cannon could hurt if one was to receive a shot at close range. Next, the chamber were you load the disc is a little complicated for a four year old. Thus, I feel the toy would be better suited for kids maybe 6 or older. However, I think both of these toys are well built and will provide hours of good verses evil!
All and all, Braydon and I give the Green Lantern Colossal Cannon and Hannu figure two thumbs up. We had an afternoon of fun and that is priceless.
