Alternatives to Redbox Instant – Money Saving Options!
Are you looking for some alternatives to Redbox Instant? Maybe looking to save a little money or get a free trial? As I previously mentioned it has been rumored about Redbox Instant shutting down on October 1st. So it is definitely a good time to start looking for some new options. I have put together a list of some of the best alternatives to Redbox Instant that are available as well as any free trials, money saving codes, or freebies!
The great thing about Redbox Instant is/was you the streaming capabilities and kiosk rentals. You not only got access to streaming movies, but also a few free codes a month to rent DVD’s or Blu-Rays at the thousands of Redbox kiosks around the country. The streaming service by Verizon is the only thing rumored to be shutting down. Not the Redbox kiosks. So I’ve included a way to save on your Redbox kiosk rentals still.
Save on Redbox Kiosks Rentals
As I mentioned the Redbox kiosks are not part of this possible shut down….just the Instant streaming service. We have a dedicated page on how to save money on your rentals with Redbox codes, text in savings, current promotions and much more. Simply head over to our Redbox codes page to get all the latest information. Make sure to bookmark it so you can easily find it when you are renting a movie.
Alternatives to Redbox Instant
Cost: starts at $8 a month
Deals: 30 day free trial
Thoughts: Netflix is the largest streaming movie / tv service right now. Like most subscription based streaming services you won’t get the latest releases for awhile. However they do have one of the largest selections of movies available. You can also find a ton of television shows to watch. They also have a DVD / Blu-Ray option as well….but it is through the mail and the cost is a little high IMO. Personally Netflix is the service that my family uses.
Amazon Prime Instant
Cost: $6.59 a month (Amazon prime membership…so $79 a year)
Deals: can get a 30 day free trial
Thoughts: Amazon Prime is one of the newest to the streaming movie / tv game. They have a large selection of movies and television shows to choose from and the list gets bigger everyday. You also get free 2 day shipping on certain items with your prime membership as well as free streaming music too! So for bang for your buck this is the way to go. I mentioned above my family currently uses Netflix, but we are looking to change over to Amazon Prime Instant soon.
Cost: $8 a month
Deals: 1 week free trial
Thoughts: Hulu Plus is all about television shows and does have the largest selection. The biggest issue I have with Hulu Plus is you are still subject to commercials. They say it is to help keep the cost of the subscription down. I would like to see them offer a commercial free experience as an option even if it is a few dollars more a month. Yes I’m spoiled…with the invention of the DVR and streaming options I just don’t watch commercials anymore.
There are a few other options where you pay per movie to rent or you can even purchase the movies. Popular choices are ITunes, Vudu (by Walmart) and Google ChromeCast. Our favorite is iTunes by far. Prices are a tad higher maybe than Vudu in some cases but there is a much larger community for recommendations, service and quality are better and I personally like the interface better as well.
