“Who is this Whack Job?!”…….”and why should I follow him?”

Well I’m glad you asked!

Let me enlighten you about the man behind Coupon Dad.

The Whack Job:

Real name: Zack

Husband and father of 4 (3 daughters and a son)

Blogger, tech geek, blog designer and social media nut..

Scrooge (hold onto those coins….), money saver and avid couponer (see story below)

I think I’m humorous, most others don’t agree

Over analyzer, little OCD (ok, ok more than a little) – my daughter says it’s CDO because it has to be in the right order.

BIG kid (my youngest tells me to grow up all the time)

Have an artistic side that will come out every so often

Appreciator of good wine and occasional scotch (single-malt)

Military brat and have lived too many places to count

Computers tend to be nice to me

Follow Me?

What…..you want more? Ok, ok…….besides the crazy humor and entertainment you will get……

Simply put, I will show you how you can save a lot of money using coupons, discounts, online coupon codes, rebates and even free samples.

I do my best to only post valid deals from reliable sources. I scour the internet and have signed up for thousands of email newsletters to find the best deals out there and bring them all to one place.

Couponing Background

Ahhh….so you want to know how the heck I got into this whole couponing thing?

Well my first exposure to coupons was at the ripe age of 14. At the time I was visiting my father and new step-mom for the summer and looking for ways to conjure up some more cash above the typical allowance I was given. So I came up with this brilliant scheme to pitch to my parents about giving me any money I was able to save them at the store using coupons. If I was able to knock $20 bucks off the grocery bill they would give it to me in cash.

I don’t think they realized the dedication and will power I had to make some money. I ate more Rice-A-Roni and yogurt that summer than I can even describe (those were big coupon items back then…LOL). The best part about it was this was when we lived in Denver and the local grocery store (King Soopers) doubled and tripled coupons…Score!

Then for a short time the whole coupon thing disappeared from my life only to resurface a few years ago. My sister-in-law and her children came to live with us bringing the mouths to feed in my household to nine. She was a heavy coupon user and knew everything there is to know about the coupon game. She quickly got me back into using coupons for everything to help get our grocery bill under control and taught me many advanced couponing techniques. She also introduced me to CVS and Walgreen’s and I have not paid for toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner and many other health and beauty items since. (See my CVS 101 post and Walgreens 101).

Shortly after Coupon Dad was born and I have been sharing my money saving tips, coupons and discounts ever since.

I hope you enjoy the web site and blog and will consider following me if you don’t already.

Hi Coupon Dad!!!
I’m a new blogger and mom of five. We have a blended family(yours, mine, and ours). We are raising them on 2 first responder incomes. I started couponing, baking my own bread (without bread machine assistance)and making my laundry detergent to make a way keep the grocery bill under control and to pay for extracirricular activities for the kids. Our youngest is 18 months and diaper coupons, especially Huggies are what I need most. If you or anyone sees some and don’t need them and would let me know about them…I’d greatly appreciate it!
Thanks from Texas!

Hi April…!

Thanks for the nice comments :) I agree on HEB, not always the best place….but on some things they are great. We shop a lot at Target since you can stack the Target coupons w/ the manufacturer ones which leads to some great deals sometimes. Walmart can be good too. I hear the commissary can be good sometimes but high at times as well. It’s been years since I have been able to shop there, but we just did a coupon class at Lackland AFB and we were talking about it with them.

Congrats on the adoption! I bet you are excited….we have 4 kids ourselves. Sounds like you will need diaper coupons :) (at least a little longer) I’ll keep my eye out for you! Let me know if you ever have any questions, suggestions or find any great deals you would like to share. We LOVE hearing from our readers.

Thanks again!

Hi Coupon Dad!

I just wanted to say I think you have a great website! Every Sunday I check it for the Walgreens deals (love how you figure all the coupons and savings out for us) and I just realized today that you have a HEB one too! I love the store but they can be a little expensive on some things. We usually shop at the commissary here at Ft Hood. We are a dual military family (hubby and I are both serving) and we are in the process of adopting our twin foster boys (16 months old) so every penny counts these days. Thanks for helping me save!

Nicole

Thank you. I have found both of them but both are 3 hrs away from me and the stores they have up there we dont have down here. We have no safeway or the Giant they refer to. We do have a giant but not that one and safeway is in MD about 45 min down. I will keep on looking. I do have time to make a blog for my area and I may start doing that and getting matchups for our Giant, Weis and Saubles grocery stores it may be fun. :)
